"Keeping children safe and helping them succeed in school and in life"

About Us

Our comprehensive after-school programs are designed to build upon all the learning achieved during the school day and throughout the school year. That is why a program, started initially just to keep children safely off the streets, has evolved into a multi-faceted program that gives at-risk children a real chance to realize their potential for success, in higher education and for the rest of their lives.

After-School All-Stars of New York offers a proven alternative for middle school children.  We engage them in activities and on-going relationships that increase confidence and encourage success in all areas of their lives - at home, in school and in the community.

Our Mission
After-School All-Stars’ mission is to provide out-of-school time programs that keep children safe and help them succeed in school and in life.

Through after-school programs and summer programs, we help kids develop vital 21st Century Skills they will need for jobs in the future – technology, public speaking, critical thinking, teamwork, and creative problem solving.

Our programs improve children’s lives by nurturing their minds, bodies and spirits through activities that incorporate academic support, enrichment opportunities and health & fitness activities into a single, holistic approach to child development.

What do we offer?
Comprehensive after-school and summer programs that are fun for kids and also keep them safe and help them achieve success in school and life.

A nationwide network that serves 78,000 youth annually through after-school and summer programs in 13 cities across the country.

A model for after-school programs for middle-school children that can be replicated anywhere across the country.

Our Organization
In 1992 Arnold Schwarzenegger started an organization called Inner-City Games Foundation for at-risk youth in Los Angeles, California.  The New York chapter of the same foundation opened in 1996.  Then, in 1997, The Inner-City Games Foundation and St. John’s University, in Jamaica, New York, launched CampUs, a unique summer program to serve children of the New York City Housing Authority System.

In 2002, the entire organization changed its name and programmatic focus to After-School All-Stars (ASAS), reflecting our focus on academic and life achievement.  Today, ASAS is a truly national organization of dedicated professionals that serves 78,000 young people annually through comprehensive after-school and summer programs in 13 cities throughout the United State.  Visit www.as-as.org to learn more.

The New York chapter of After-School All-Stars (ASASNY) works with more than 1,000 youth who are enrolled in our after-school programs.  Our CampUs summer sports and academic camps draw more than 2,500 youth from the entire New York metropolitan area.

The success of ASASNY would not be possible without the generous ongoing support of St. John’s University.  In keeping with its mission to provide education for people, especially those lacking economic advantages, St. John’s University partners with ASASNY to provide summer and after-school programs for thousands of underserved children throughout the five boroughs of New York City and Long Island.

The University generously houses ASASNY on its main campus in Jamaica, New York.
